1883 Burgess Rifle 25 1/2" Octagon 44 WCF

SKU: CA2605
Marking Colt's only entry into the lever-action rifle field, nonetheless the 15-shot Burgess repeater was a well-made firearm. Originally called "Colt's New Magazine Rifle," the Burgess was produced from 1883-1885, with around 6,400 guns leaving the factory. Buffalo Bill Cody owned one. Interestingly, it's generally believed that the reason the Burgess was discontinued was that since the Burgess was a direct competitor to the 1873 Winchester, that company in turn made up several experimental revolvers, causing Colt to back away from further interest in the repeating rifle market. Made along the general lines of the 1873 Winchester, with the exception of the Burgess' much larger loading gate on the receiver, the gun was well received during its short life.

Cimarron's 1883 Colt Burgess rifle is offered in full Standard Blue finish with the straight grained walnut stocking. Our replica can be had in the 25 1/2-inch barreled rifle form or the 20-inch carbine version, in its original .44-40 chambering, or in the popular .45 Colt round. Here's another authentic Old West firearm from Cimarron!
